‘Barbie’ Grosses Over $1 Billion – Culture

The movie “Barbie” has already grossed more than a billion dollars worldwide – since its premiere around two weeks ago. A subsidiary of the media group Warner Bros. Discovery announced that tickets for the film about the famous toy doll had sold for $459 million in US cinemas and for $572 million in the rest of the world.

That brings “Barbie,” in which the doll played by Margot Robbie travels to the real world with Ken (Ryan Gosling), to date to $1.0315 billion. As sales directors, they’re not often speechless about a film’s results, “but Barbillion has shattered even our most optimistic predictions,” said Warner executives Jeff Goldstein and Andrew Cripps. “Barbie” broke the one billion dollar mark faster than any other film from the production company, including the “Harry Potter” films. Already on its first weekend it made more money than any other film that came out this year.

The media group also announced that Greta Gerwig is the first female solo director to achieve this level of revenue, making her the most commercially successful director in the world at the moment. The historical drama “Oppenheimer” by Christopher Nolan about the “father of the atomic bomb”, which was launched at the same time, has so far brought its creators $228 million in the USA and $552 million worldwide.
