A gunman shot dead three people in a shopping center in the Thai capital Bangkok. Authorities say six other people were injured. Thai police announced on social media that they had arrested the suspected perpetrator at the scene. This is a 14-year-old. Security authorities released a photo showing a man lying on the ground and being handcuffed.

Incident during evening rush hour

The shopping center, which is also popular among foreign tourists and contains, among other things, luxury shops, is one of the best-known malls in Bangkok and is located at Siam Train Station, an important hub in the capital. Eyewitnesses reported that hundreds of people tried to flee the shopping center. The police closed the nearby train station to prevent commuters from leaving the station towards the mall.

Prime Minister “highly concerned”

Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin expressed shock at the incident. He was informed about it and asked the police to investigate. Thavisin said he was “highly concerned” about the public security situation.

Attacks with firearms are more common in Thailand. In the past three years, a total of 51 people have died in two serious attacks.
