Bamberg SPD city councilor lets office rest. – Bavaria

After a controversial statement about “fake accounts”, the SPD leader in the Bamberg city council, Klaus Stieringer, can rest his office. Stieringer was confronted in the BR with the suspicion that fake profiles on the Internet were used to create a mood against reports that deal critically with the Bamberg town hall policy, the so-called bonus affair and SPD Mayor Andreas Starke. Stieringer replied last week: “Fake accounts first give people the opportunity to move anonymously in social networks while protecting their personal rights. I think that’s okay.” On Monday morning, Stieringer apologized for this and criticized his own statements as “stupid” and “not okay”. After a parliamentary group meeting on Monday evening, he is now resting in office. According to the SPD district chairman Felix Holland, the city council group will decide how long this stage will last. Holland also calls Stieringer’s statement “really stupid and wrong”. But he respects his understanding and apology. For the time being, Holland does not want to comment on whether and when Stieringer can take over the chairmanship of the parliamentary group again after a certain period of time.
