A crow in Bamberg got caught in an abandoned fishing line. The helpless animal was hanging over the Main-Danube Canal and threatened to fall into the river, the police announced on Monday. Walkers saw the bird and called the police.
According to police, an unknown angler is to blame. He had probably thrown out a rubber fishing lure that got caught in the bank branches. Because he could no longer untie the cord, he reportedly simply left it there. The crow then mistook the bait fish for prey and got entangled, they said.
The officials took a boat to the animal last Friday and rescued it. The crow was handed over to a wildlife rescue center. She should be nursed back there. The water police initially investigated the unknown angler for violating the Animal Welfare Act.
