Finland was early, and now one has to say: fortunately. The country has taken precautions; since the beginning of 2023, a terminal in the south of the country has been able to process and store liquefied natural gas, or LNG for short. Inkoo is the name of the place where the terminal floats, and it is also the place where the pipeline from Estonia ends in Finland. It is the “Balticconnector”, the pipeline that was allegedly intentionally damaged. Finland’s government and security apparatus suspect that Russia is behind it. So another leak, a year after the attacks on the Nord Stream pipelines. But even if the suspicion of sabotage now worries Finland and Europe politically, it is economically viable if natural gas no longer flows through the pipeline.
