There are a lot of question marks at FC Bayern these days. In addition to those of a sporting nature, the search for a new coach also dominates the headlines. Several coaches should have a good chance of being Thomas Tuchel’s successor. But according to former Munich player Michael Ballack, there is no perfect candidate among the trio currently being traded.
If you look through the newspapers in the last few weeks, three main candidates keep coming up around FC Bayern who are currently said to have the best chance of getting the coaching job at FC Bayern, which is open from the summer.
In particular, these are Julian Nagelsmann, who was dismissed in Munich in March of last year and who looks after the German national soccer team up to (at least) including the European Championships, Austria’s national coach and former Bundesliga coach Ralf Rangnick and Roberto De Zerbi, highly praised team manager of Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.
However, if former Bayern star and current TV expert Michael Ballack has his way, then no coach from the trio mentioned would be the perfect man for the job.
“I find all of the coaches you mentioned difficult for FC Bayern,” Ballack told “kicker” when asked about the top favorites.
“Ralf Rangnick is doing an excellent job, but two years ago it would have been unthinkable that he would be associated with FC Bayern,” said Ballack, explaining: “Because he is not an easy guy, because he puts his finger in the wound because you have to deal with it.”
Bringing the current national coach and former Bayern coach Nagelsmann back “would be the last option for me, I wouldn’t recommend that,” explained the 47-year-old, without giving any more specific reasons. Ballack also didn’t say anything more specific about De Zerbi. Rather, he indicated that the German record champions’ problem lies on a completely different level.
Ballack: FC Bayern “must get to work on the squad”
“For me, the question that is much more important than the coaching succession is: Where do you start with the team? You have to think about it much more intensively because there seems to be a structure there that is even for very communicative and intelligent coaches like “It makes it very difficult for Nagelsmann and Tuchel to get along and be successful,” emphasized Ballack, attesting that the stars had experienced a “certain saturation process.”
The “self-image of self-motivation is no longer there as it was perhaps in this successful Corona year of 2020,” emphasized the former midfielder. At FC Bayern “some things slipped.
For Ballack, one thing is clear: “Those responsible must clearly apply the lever to get the hunger back and to bring about clean stability in the issues of hierarchy and salary structure. You have to approach the squad.
