Baldur’s Gate 3: Second patch with performance improvements and new endings

Shortly after the release of the first patch, Larian announced the second major update for Baldur’s Gate 3. The second patch is “right around the corner,” writes Larian in a community post. In addition to bug fixes, it should also include content and technical improvements that the community wanted.

A common point of criticism is the end of the game. At least the companion Karlach should get a better end with Patch 2, Larian promises. The character Minthara should also be more involved in the gameplay and react to more events – these reactions were already in the game, but were not triggered due to bugs, writes Larian.

In addition, Larian claims to have improved the performance of the game. This affects game areas, but above all the content from Act 3. In this act, there are regularly more characters on the screen than in the previous two game sections, which puts a considerable load on the processor. Even with the current top CPUs, a stable 60 FPS was hardly possible in the third act – the second patch promises improvement.

More community wishlist items to come later. Larian has again confirmed that a possibility should be built in to change the appearance of the character after the game starts. However, there is still no date for implementation. Larian didn’t say a word about the party management in the camp. In order to move items from a companion’s inventory to another inventory, you must currently have the companion in the active party – in practice this means unnecessary tinkering if you want to exchange items.

Many fans are wondering if Larian is planning a Definitive Edition with new content and features like his previous games Divinity Original Sin and Divinity Original Sin 2. After exuberantly positive feedback on the first two sections of the game, there was criticism of the third act. Even with Original Sin 2, the last act was not at the level of the previous sections, which Larian later improved with a revised Definitive Edition. However, Larian does not address these speculations in his post on the future of the game. The studio is only committed to continue to fix bugs and implement necessary improvements.
