In the collective bargaining dispute between Deutsche Bahn and the train drivers’ union GDL, the railway is now suing against the GDL’s new strike. The strike was “groundless” and “not proportionate,” the company said in an urgent application to the court.

Deutsche Bahn is now taking legal action against the GDL’s new strike. The group submitted an urgent application for an interim injunction to the Frankfurt am Main labor court.

Above all, the “far too short lead time” of 22 hours in freight traffic is “a sheer imposition,” said DB Human Resources Director Martin Seiler. “We consider these wave strikes to be disproportionate. They endanger supplies in the country.”

The strike was also “groundless” because the DB had repeatedly emphasized that it wanted to complete the negotiations on the basis of the moderators’ overall proposal. “This unpredictability of train traffic is unacceptable. People have to go to work, goods have to go to the factories, coal has to go to the power plants, without the train nothing works in this country anymore,” said Seiler.

Sixth industrial dispute in the collective bargaining dispute

On Sunday evening, the GDL called for what is now the sixth industrial action in the ongoing collective bargaining dispute with the railway. From Tuesday morning, passenger transport will be on strike for 24 hours. The freight transport strike is scheduled to begin today at 6 p.m.

The GDL announced the strike at much shorter notice than the previous industrial disputes. With the so-called wave strikes, union leader Claus Weselsky wants to increase the pressure on employers.

During the ongoing conflict, the railway had already tried to legally prevent a labor dispute by the GDL, but was unsuccessful in two instances.
