Bahn board member Berthold Huber: Pofalla successor seems to have been found

Status: 03/29/2022 2:54 p.m

Bahn board member Berthold Huber could be the successor to the outgoing infrastructure board Ronald Pofalla. A decision should be made “promptly”.

Berthold Huber could become the new infrastructure board of Deutsche Bahn. Huber is considered the favorite for Pofalla’s post, according to supervisory board circles on Tuesday. There could be a special meeting of the control committee “soon”. The “Spiegel” had previously reported on the personnel.

Huber has been with Deutsche Bahn since 1997

The 58-year-old Huber has been with Deutsche Bahn since 1997 and has been responsible for passenger transport since 2015. According to information from the “Spiegel”, Huber’s previous department is to be taken over by the department heads for long-distance and regional transport. If both are promoted to the Group Executive Board, the body would grow by one to eight posts. A railway spokesman declined to comment.

Personal reasons at Pofalla

The former Chancellery Minister Pofalla is leaving the Deutsche Bahn Board of Directors after seven years for personal reasons, as he announced in early March. His contract was extended to July 2025 a year ago.

Before moving to Deutsche Bahn, Pofalla was CDU general secretary and from 2009 to 2013 head of the Federal Chancellery under Angela Merkel. At Deutsche Bahn, he was initially responsible for government relations in particular. Pofalla has been a board member for infrastructure since 2017. This also includes the Stuttgart 21 construction project.
