Several US Army trucks are on the highway with tons of explosives and missiles on board when the crash occurs. Two military vehicles crash into each other, four are injured.

After the accident involving a US military convoy loaded with tons of explosives and rockets on Autobahn 6 between Heilbronn and Nuremberg, preparations have been made to remove the dangerous goods.

According to the police, work began early in the morning to unload the material onto US Army replacement vehicles using a truck-mounted crane and to salvage the trucks involved in the accident. The A6 should then be reopened to traffic in both directions.

In addition, the police announced new details about the course of the accident yesterday afternoon. According to this, two articulated lorries from the convoy of five trucks collided in an unsuccessful lane change. The driver’s cab of a truck was torn off and the truck caught fire. The driver and passenger were seriously injured, the two occupants of the second trailer slightly.

The fire brigade was able to extinguish the fire. According to the police, the explosive cargo was not equipped with detonators and was not damaged, which is why it could be reloaded “safely” after an assessment by specialists from the US military.

The convoy was heading towards Nuremberg when the accident happened. The scene of the accident was cordoned off as a result. The full closure of the A6 at Kirchberg an der Jagst on both sides caused traffic jams that stretched for kilometers.
