Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen: fox mange on the rise – Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen

For a few weeks now, an increasing number of foxes suffering from fox mange have been observed in the district, especially in the municipality of Kochel am See. Since dogs can also be infected, the veterinary office strongly advises against letting dogs run free. The district office reports that the risk of infection can be significantly reduced in this way. Mange is caused by various types of mites. In the case of the fox, this is primarily the digging mite Sarcoptes scabiei var. vulpes. The mange is accompanied by severe itching. The animals scratch and gnaw themselves, which leads to bacterial infections that can lead to death.
