Bad scenes at the Mexico race: Formula 1 imposes a lifelong ban | Sports

Bad scenes in the stands at the Mexican Grand Prix.

There were fights between Formula 1 fans during the race. The starting signal for the brawl was probably the collision between Charles Leclerc (26/Ferrari) and local hero Sergio Perez (33/Red Bull).

Brawl in the stands!

A video of this also went viral on social networks. Although some spectators tried to mediate, this only caused the situation to escalate further. The instigator was eventually found and taken away by the security service. He was immediately banned from the track and all other Formula 1 events for life.

The organizers are thus rigorously implementing Formula 1’s “Racepect” campaign. The aim is to get the “disrespect within the F1 community” under control. Signs of the initiative were clearly visible throughout the race track.

A spokeswoman for the track told BILD: “At the Formula 1 Grand of Mexico, we dealt with the situation immediately and strongly condemned any form of violence, as it has no place on the track, in the stands or in motorsport. We stand for mutual respect and will continue to work to create a safe environment for all participants and fans.”
