Muhammad Malik was looking for a wife, then the pandemic came. To get the bride and groom moving, he put a dating poster in London and Birmingham. Because he prefers to look for a wife himself before his mother does it for him.
Muhammad Malik is 29, handsome and could be happy with the world. If it weren’t for his family, because they seem to be a thorn in the side of Malik’s “unmarried” status. And before his mother took action, Malik had huge posters hung up in London and Birmingham, on which he lolled casually.
“Save me from an arranged marriage!” Reads the inscription. He told the British media that he was from Pakistan and that in principle he had nothing against the concept of an arranged marriage. But he would prefer to “find someone on your own first”. But so far the banker’s efforts have been rather unsuccessful.
According to the motto “Desperate times require desperate measures”, he made a double strike a few days ago. His posters are intended to attract potential brides in the streets, and the website – findmalikawife.com – is launching on the Internet at the same time. These posters aren’t cheap, but Malik wasn’t stingy when looking for the “right one”.
Spares no effort or expense
“I am of Pakistani descent,” explains Malik. The first address to find a woman are the “Rishta Aunties” – the traditional matchmakers. But this method didn’t work for him. Or maybe Malik is just too smart to be married with cousins. The tendency of the Pakistani community to marry relatives is considered questionable for medical reasons. From “aunts” Malik switched to dating apps and dating events, but he felt “quite uncomfortable”.
A friend came up with the idea of the ads. “I thought, ‘Why not – what can happen?” Only his mother needed a little editing. But now his parents are fully in support of his search. “I just haven’t found the right girl yet. It’s tough out there,” he explains of the poster campaign. When he seriously wanted to look for a bride, the pandemic came. First he had to look after his career.
Believing and unconventional
The unconventional method would suit him well. “I am a creative person and I love to do the craziest and most absurd things – as long as they are 100 percent halal, of course,” says the devout man. His self-descriptions on the wedding page are witty and full of humor.
With his future partner, personality and belief are more important than outward appearances. But there is one thing that interested women need to know. Malik’s family is sacred to him. He is an only child and I take care of mother and father. “If that is an obstacle for you, I don’t think it will work.”
From the point of view of the response, the campaign seems to be a complete success. Since the ads were posted, Malik has received hundreds of messages from interested ladies. There has not yet been a date, the flood of letters overwhelmed the man. “I haven’t had time to go through them all,” he admits. “I need to take some time – I didn’t finish that part.”
