Baby Yoda is hugely popular with Star Wars fans. One can’t do anything with the hype: “Gremlins” creator Joe Dante.

Filmmaker Joe Dante (75) is not a fan of Baby Yoda. The director is responsible for the horror comedies “Gremlins: Little Monsters” (1984) and “Gremlins 2: Return of the Little Monsters” (1990). Like the industry magazine “Variety” Now quoted from an interview with the “San Francisco Chronicle”, the Disney + series “The Mandalorian” with its main character Baby Yoda is a “shameless” copy of the “Gremlins”. Baby Yoda was primarily inspired by the Gremlin Gizmo, according to Dante.

Baby Yoda is said to be “completely stolen”.

“I think the longevity [dieser Filme] is really thanks to this one character [Gizmo]which is basically like a baby,” Dante explains. “Of course, that brings me to the subject of Baby Yoda, who is completely stolen and absolutely copied,” the director fumes.

Baby Yoda first appeared in the pilot episode of the Star Wars series The Mandalorian (2019). The character will also appear in the third season of the series, although no release date has been announced as of now.

The “Gremlins”, on the other hand, will soon experience a revival. HBO Max is airing the animated series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai this fall. Dante worked here as a consultant.
