Winter solstice is when the time is right for the Ayinger Spielhahnschützen. So the shooters invited to their celebration on Wednesday, a week after the actual date on December 21st, because it couldn’t collide with the many Christmas celebrations that were being held at the same time. The crowd on the town hall square was correspondingly large. The children were served waffles, but they also had fun baking stick bread, in which a yeast dough is wrapped around a stick and held over the embers of an open fire. Mulled wine and beer as well as bratwurst rolls and goulash soup awaited the adults.
