Aying – No second track, but a cycle path – District of Munich

The great hope of commuters from the Ayinger area has been a double-track expansion of the S-7 line for many years. It is expected that in three years’ time construction crews will actually arrive at Großhelfendorf station to lower the tracks by six meters. However, only for safety reasons, as around 60 visitors to an information event on Tuesday in the gymnasium in Großhelfendorf learned from Manfred Rauscher from DB Netz AG. The railway representative showed understanding for the concerns of the Ayinger and noticed their lack of understanding about the fact that the plans for a double-track expansion will not be included in the current project. As before in the local council, Rauscher stated that there was no planning order for this, but at least the possibility of a two-track construction would not be blocked by the work on the Großhelfendorfer train station. Such is still not ruled out, said the railroad representative.

“The population does not understand that the plans for a second track are not included,” says the deputy mayor Karin Lechner (FW), who represented the sick town hall chief Peter Wagner (CSU) that evening. Overall, however, it was a very harmonious information event without any major fuss. Manfred Rauscher also explained the course of the construction work, which is to begin in 2014 and which will require the forest road between the level crossing and the settlement to be closed for a period of several months. During this time, the railway track in the area between the edge of the forest in the south and the building yard will be sunk by six meters and the level crossing in the Göggenhofen district will be upgraded.

The visitors to the information events also learned that although there will be no elevator to the stop in Großhelfendorf, which is six meters lower at the end, accessibility is guaranteed by ramps. And even if their long-cherished wish for a faster connection by expanding the line to two tracks has not yet come true, they still have a small advantage: an additional walkway along the forest road on the south side and a bike path on the north side.
