After more than 20 years as crime sceneInvestigator Klaus Borowski will soon be over for actor Axel Milberg with the role. Milberg will only be seen in the first episode as a commissioner with new episodes until 2025, reports Norddeutscher Rundfunk.
Milberg, 68, has played Detective Borowski in 38 episodes to date. “As nice as it was to focus on the character, after 21 years the market is changing and so am I. So I asked the NDR management not to extend our contract again and I’m looking forward to the new thing. Now my eyes are on the move front,” says Milberg.
In the fall of this year, Milberg will celebrate his 20th anniversary with the case “Borowski and the innocent child of Wacken”, directed by Ayse Polat. The small Schleswig-Holstein town of Wacken is best known for its annual heavy metal festival.

According to NDR Director General Joachim Knuth, the farewell marks the end of an era. Milberg is “an exceptional actor whose art of transformation and playfulness I will miss very much”. He have the crime scene from Kiel “has been shaped for over two decades and with his character of Klaus Borowski has developed his very own North German character, which fits in wonderfully with Schleswig-Holstein,” writes Knuth in the statement.
Milberg also emphasizes that Borowski is a specifically North German figure. “There was never a routine, nothing was repeated, everyone from Kiel crime scene was different”. And quite incidentally, the films have become declarations of love, to the country between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.
After Milberg’s departure, Borowski’s previous employee Mila Sahin, played by Almila Bagriacik, will take over the role of chief investigator in Kiel from 2026. It will be announced later who will be part of the new team. With Milberg, Sibel Kekilli (as Commissioner Sarah Brandt) and Maren Eggert (as criminal psychologist Frieda Jung) were the second leading roles in front of the camera.
