A smart toaster! It wakes you up geek ! Tineco, the floor maintenance specialist (we owe him many upright vacuum cleaners and mop vacuum cleaners) focused on our kitchens. With the Toasty One, which was unveiled at the IFA electronics fair in Berlin in September 2022 and which has just been released, the Chinese manufacturer offers a device supposed to grill our toast with small onions using its on-board intelligence. Something to give bread on the board 20 minuteswho tested the Toasty!
A 4 inch touch screen
We are not going to hide it. The Toasty One is a beautiful device. Imposing, but not too much (32.20 x 20 cm, for 3.69 kg). Were it not for its stainless steel construction, its chubby shape and its porcelain finish, what is striking is the presence of its screen on one of its sides. One more screen at home!
With a diagonal of 4 inches (10.16 cm, it is larger than that of the first iPhone which measured 8.89 cm!). Touchscreen, this screen provides access to machine parameters and controls. The Toasty One has two 14 cm x 3.5 cm slots Convenient for sandwich bread, but for good baguette slices that make weekend breakfasts crispy, you don’t have to be too greedy.
Identical or differentiated grid
Under the screen a button: on / off rather oddly placed. We looked for it for a while when we first used it. Once lit, an LED bulb discreetly illuminates the interior of the toaster. The pinnacle of chic! Among the settings is the possibility of choosing the same or different toasting of two sandwiches. Thus, each slice of bread, duly schematized on the screen, will be able to toast more or less independently. Then, it is possible to opt for a Manual or Intelligent mode.
In Manual mode, two options: fresh or frozen. Then four toasting intensities. The Intelligent mode allows, for its part, to measure the intensity of the toasting using a slider. The more you advance your index finger on the screen, the browner the toast displayed! Admittedly, it’s quite entertaining. Brief.
Once the selection is made, all that remains is to launch the device. There, the sandwiches automatically descend into the toaster. Magic. On the screen, the progression of the toasting expressed as a percentage allows you to wait religiously for the end of the operation. Knob of butter at the tip of the knife, the user’s feverishness is at its height. two small beeps and the sandwiches rise very quietly from their respective slots, ready to be eaten.
Freeze the humidity…
Tineco talks about two proprietary technologies about its Toasty One. The one, called Goden Crispy, which allows to freeze the humidity of the bread. But also its cooking algorithm named IntelliHeat. It detects the condition of the bread to adjust the thermal performance of the device and toast perfectly. Mazette. Understand that your sandwich will be scanned before being grilled!
We laugh about it, but it’s true that after a few tries, we really appreciated being able to finely toast our sandwiches, which came out nicely golden, crispy on the outside, but still tender on the inside. Nothing to do with the approximate side of a conventional toaster. On the Tineco, it is even possible to program up to eight favourites, so that all the members of the family can enjoy bread that is really toasted to their liking! Note that the walls of the toaster hardly heat up and do not present a danger for children to touch. For its part, a removable crumb tray greatly simplifies maintenance.
Real environmental issues
Notwithstanding its very real performance, the Toasty One is an appliance that may seem perfectly superfluous in a kitchen. It can be all the more so as it is based on an ecological aberration, which requires the contribution of ever more natural resources, in particular to manufacture its screen. One can also wonder about the lifespan of such a product, its repairability. Even if it means going to the end of its approach, Tineco could have associated a personal assistant, like Alexa, to create a great “Echo Show Toast” on which we could have watched the news at breakfast!
There remains the price of the machine, launched at 399 euros, but quickly fell to 339 euros, which remains exorbitant for browning sandwich bread. We thought, with the Toasty One, we had unearthed the most expensive toaster on the market. But no: there is one sold… 2,200 euros, the price of an electric bike! This is the model “Noun” from the Italian brand Casa Bugatti, which toasts through two transparent glass-ceramic plates using an induction heating system. Rest assured: in addition to breakfast sandwiches, it can also grill steaks and shrimps… An entry-level toaster is worth a fifteen euros.
