“Home Alone” and “Apollo 13” in the US film register
Macaulay Culkin as Kevin Home Alone, Tom Hanks as an astronaut and Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator are not only popular film heroes – they can now also be found in the US film register.
Hollywood classics such as the Christmas film “Home Alone” and the space drama “Apollo 13” have been added to the official film registry in the USA. A total of 25 films were selected because of their cultural, historical and artistic significance for US film art, according to a statement from the National Library in Washington. These include, among others, “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” and “12 Years a Slave”.
It said 6,875 films were suggested by the public. 875 films have now been added to the Library of Congress register, founded in 1989, for special protection.
