Abba and Green Day new to the US music register

The official US music registry regularly honors recordings of particular importance. There are some big names there again this year.

Music by Green Day, Abba, Bill Withers, Blondie and Pattie Page, among others, has been included in the official music register in the USA. Every year, the music register, founded in 2000, includes recordings that are at least ten years old and “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant”.

The 25 new albums and songs recorded this year include Page’s “Tennessee Waltz”, Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine”, Abba’s “Arrival”, Bondie’s “Parallel Lines” and Green Day’s “Dookie”. and “This is a Recording” by Lily Tomlin, according to the US National Library of Congress.

Additionally, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin, “Ready to Die” by The Notorious BIG and the Christmas song “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer” by Gene Autry are new to the register.
