Foretaste of the Oscars: Hollywood celebrities have gathered to award the honorary Oscars to Angela Bassett and Mel Brooks. German filmmakers are also celebrating.

Two months before the Oscar gala, the Hollywood Film Academy presented its honoraryOscars awarded. At the “Governors Awards” gala, Hollywood celebrities celebrated the four award winners on Wednesday night. In addition to the comedian legend Mel Brooks (97) and the US actress Angela Bassett (65), the film editor Carol Littleton (82) also accepted the high award. Michelle Satter was also celebrated by the Sundance Institute with the Jean Hersholt Prize for her commitment to independent film.

The gala in the ballroom of the Dolby Theater, where the Oscars will be awarded on March 10th, attracted many stars. This year’s Golden Globe winners such as Robert Downey Jr., Cillian Murphy, Lily Gladstone and Emma Stone were there. Penélope Cruz, Margot Robbie, Natalie Portman, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Bradley Cooper, Willem Dafoe and Martin Scorsese also celebrated. German filmmakers such as Wim Wenders, Franz Rogowski, director Ilker Catak (“The Teacher’s Room”) with leading actress Leonie Benesch were also among the guests.

There is no competition for the honorary Oscars; rather, the Academy selects people who have made a special contribution to film and society.

Bassett (“Tina – What’s Love Got To Do With It?”, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”) had already been nominated for an Oscar twice in her long career, but always came away empty-handed. Comedy star Brooks is known for cult films such as “Frankenstein Junior” and “The Wild Wild West”. The multi-talented artist is one of the small group of “EGOT” artists who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.

Littleton worked as an editor on dozens of films, including “Hot-Blooded – Cold-Blooded” and “The Big Frustration.” She received an Oscar nomination for editing Steven Spielberg’s science fiction film “ET – The Extra-Terrestrial” (1982). According to the film academy, Satter has been supporting the independent scene at the Sundance Institute for over 40 years. It was said that she had promoted many talents from all over the world.
