Autumn storm: severe weather warning for parts of Bavaria – Bavaria

The past few days have brought sunny and warm late summer weather in Bavaria – but now the first autumn storm has arrived. Especially for the north and east of Bavaria and the mountains, the German Weather Service (DWD) warns of sometimes heavy gusts of wind at speeds of up to 115 kilometers per hour. Trees can be uprooted and buildings can be damaged.

The reason for this is the cold front of the storm bottom Ignatz. Its focus is on Scandinavia, but the low crosses Bavaria on Thursday south-east, according to the meteorologists. In the morning there are initially in Franconia and Swabia, in the course of the morning also in the eastern parts of the country there are gusts of wind up to 75, sometimes up to 90 kilometers per hour from southwest to west. In the ridges of the low mountain ranges and on high Alpine peaks, there can be gale-force gusts of up to 115 kilometers per hour, in northern Bavaria they sometimes occur at lower altitudes.

In the Allgäu, according to the DWD, there can be local heavy rain in the morning with amounts of around 15 liters per square meter, occasionally also thunderstorms. Lightning and thunder as well as brief heavy rain can also occur in northern Franconia. It’s also raining heavily in southern Bavaria and the Upper Palatinate. In the afternoon the wind subsides, in some places the sun shows up. In Franconia it should rain again in the evening. The temperatures remain rather mild, they are 12 to 17 degrees and drop to 7 to 1 degrees at night.
