Autumn is always an important season for new films and series in streaming services. A lot is in the starting blocks, including “The House of Dreams”, the Monroe film “Blond”, the Sisi series “The Empress” and new seasons of “Babylon Berlin” and “The Crown”.
Streaming services like to exploit successes, recycle a lot, produce sequels and prequels. Sky and Wow, for example, recently launched the “Game Of Thrones” offshoot “House Of The Dragon”, Disney+ has had the “Star Wars” series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” since May and Amazon Prime Video now has the series ” The Lord of the Rings – The Rings of Power” in the program.
In the coming weeks, new seasons of some series hits will also be available, including “The Walking Dead” (one of the final eight episodes weekly on Disney+ from October 3rd), “Barbarians” (2nd season on Netflix from October 21st), “Enola Holmes” ( 2nd season on Netflix from November 4th) and “The Handmaid’s Tale” (5th season from November 10th on Magenta TV). But there is still more to come.
The house of dreams
This series on RTL+ from September 18 with Naemi Florez, Ludwig Simon, Nina Kunzendorf and Alexander Scheer is about the former Berlin department store Jonass and a love that transcends social boundaries. The Jonass building at Torstraße 1 in Berlin-Mitte was later the headquarters of the Hitler Youth and, in GDR times, the headquarters of the SED. It now houses Soho House, a private club hotel. The series fits into the boom in history series set in Berlin (“Babylon Berlin”, “Charité”, “Deutschland 83” etc.).

Twin brothers Marco and Andrea (Mattia Carrano in a dual role) seek their identity in this Amazon Original Italian series, out September 21. Her journey to self-discovery and between gender norms is Coming of Age anno 2022.
Marilyn Monroe
Biopics are always booming. From September 23, Netflix is now bringing the feature film “Blonde” by Andrew Dominik about Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe, who died 60 years ago. The biography was based on a 2000 novel by Joyce Carol Oates. Ana de Armas plays the title role.
The Empress
Sissi is now also on Netflix – the series “The Empress” (international: The Empress) will start on September 29th. Devrim Lingnau and Philip Froissant portray the imperial couple in six episodes about the Bavarian Elisabeth at the court in Vienna. Competitor RTL + had already launched its “Sisi” series with Dominique Devenport and Jannik Schümann in December 2021.
The Greatest Beer Run Ever
Starring Zac Efron, Russell Crowe and Bill Murray, the film (coming September 30 on Apple TV+) tells a supposedly true story from the Vietnam War. Chickie wants to bring a buddy a little piece of home to the war zone as a token of his support: canned American beer.
My Best Friend’s Exorcism
High school friends Abby and Gretchen go swimming in this ’80s movie (Amazon Original Movie available September 30). But then Gretchen is suddenly moody and irritable. And bizarre things happen again and again. Is the friendship of the students strong enough against the devil?
Babylon Berlin
In terms of content, the fourth season of the bombastic Berlin series is based on the book “Goldstein” from Volker Kutscher’s crime cycle. The action takes place in the winter of 1930/31, when the global economic crisis is really getting worse. Might be a good fit this year. From October 8th on Saturdays at 8:15 p.m. in double episodes on Sky One and on Sky Q and Wow on demand. As usual, ARD broadcasts the season later – not until 2023.

RTL + has announced this action comedy series for autumn, in which David Hasselhoff and Henry Hübchen play themselves. During a theater engagement in Berlin, the old stars get caught up in an agent conspiracy.
nothing new in the West
The anti-war classic by Erich Maria Remarque has been filmed twice so far. The first version made in the USA in 1930 received an Oscar for best picture. The remake of Edward Berger, which will be available on Netflix from October 28 after a short theatrical release, has been put forward by committees as the German candidate for the best international film for the 2023 Oscars.
The Crown
Series fans have already been excited for 2021 to see Imelda Staunton, who plays Queen Elizabeth II in the fifth season of the Netflix series “The Crown”. But it took a year longer – now the new episodes are coming in November. Staunton follows Olivia Colman and Claire Foy as the Queen. Season 6 has already been decided. However, this will probably be the last season of the series.

News from the “Dark” creators Jantje Friese (screenplay) and Baran bo Odar (director) has been announced for a long time: The mystery thriller series “1899” with Andreas Pietschmann and Emily Beecham should now be available at the end of 2022. In it, emigrants encounter a mysterious other ship on their way to America.

The mastermind behind it is none other than Tim Burton (“Mars Attacks!”, “Edward Scissorhands”, “Alice in Wonderland”).
Pinocchio
Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro (“Shape of Water”) is releasing his gritty “Pinocchio” retelling, set in 1930s fascist Italy, on Netflix in December. Del Toro calls his stop-motion heart project a “little fable about love, life and disobedience”. Stars like Ewan McGregor, Cate Blanchett and Christoph Waltz lend their voices to the characters in the original.
Murder by God
The true crime series tells the story of a crime that took place in 1984 in the US state of Utah. “Spider-Man” star Andrew Garfield has to deal with the bloody consequences of religious fundamentalism. In the US, the miniseries (Original: Under the Banner of Heaven) started in April. It will also be launched on Disney+ in Germany in December.
Glass Onion – A Knives Out Mystery
The new whodunit crime thriller (Who Did It?) is a sequel to Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out” – again starring Daniel Craig as Detective Benoit Blanc. This time he travels to Greece to investigate a mysterious murder. Again there is a group of urgent suspects (this time portrayed by stars like Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kate Hudson). Planned launch on Netflix is the day before Christmas Eve.
