A strange book. A year ago, on February 4, 2023, the artistic director and drama director, the director, institute founder and professor Jürgen Flimm died; He wrote his memoirs until his death. Now they have appeared; Helge Malchow, publisher at Kiepenheuer & Witsch for many years, proofread it for this one. The title comes from Flimm himself: “With Heart and Mouth and Action and Life”, borrowed from a Bach cantata, which is fitting because music was important to Jürgen Flimm throughout his life. But the bumping and stumbling of the title also reveals a truth, because not always, but again and again, these “memories” seem as if someone had swept up all the pieces of paper that were still lying around on his desk into a box after the theater legend’s death and its contents were published as a book without much fuss. Whether his figure is subject to a shy reverence or a certain shrewdness remains to be seen. The publisher promises that the errors will be eliminated for the e-book and the second print edition.
