The downfall of Austrian social democracy has been averted for the time being. The party has a new leader. His name is Andreas Babler, which should surprise him the most. Not only because the mayor of a small town in Lower Austria made it from an outsider position in a party campaign to the top of the party in just a few months, overcoming power-conscious officials and encrusted structures.
