The search for the plane near Sölden is being expanded. According to the police, the pilot was heading towards Germany.

In Austrian Ötztal continues to search for a missing light aircraft that was on its way to Germany. Two helicopters are now also in the nearby Pitztal and Sellraintal to search for the machine, said a police spokesman. The search radius is expanded. The weather situation has calmed down.

Contact with the pilot of the light aircraft was lost on Saturday afternoon. According to police, it was on its way from Italy to Germany. The last cell phone signal was received over the Ötztal. The search there yielded no results, said the spokesman.

The first search yesterday had to be canceled due to winds and rainfall. There was also Saharan dust in the air, as the police spokesman said. The police assume that the pilot was alone on board. She did not provide any information about his identity.

The Ötztal is a side valley of the Inn Valley in the Austrian state of Tyrol. The alpine holiday resort of Sölden is located almost 1,400 meters high in the southern part of the valley, around 100 kilometers south of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria.
