Austria imposes lockdown for unvaccinated people from Monday
In Austria, a nationwide lockdown will apply from Monday for people not vaccinated against the coronavirus. A corresponding agreement was reached by top representatives of the government in Vienna and the federal states in a video conference, as announced by Federal Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg.

Those who have not been vaccinated or have recovered in the past 180 days are only allowed to leave their homes for compelling reasons. This includes shopping for daily needs, visits to the doctor or even a walk that is deemed necessary.
The exit restrictions are initially limited to ten days. The police want to closely monitor the regulations. Violations can result in fines of up to 1450 euros. It is estimated that two million people are affected who do not have a vaccination. Austria has a seven-day incidence per 100,000 population of around 850.
After the lockdown for unvaccinated people, the Austrian federal government is also thinking of night exit restrictions for all citizens. This proposal is on the table and will be decided next Wednesday, said Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens) on Sunday evening in the ORF news program “ZiB2”.
“We’re all in the same boat,” said Mückstein. If a general lockdown is to be prevented, a reduction in contact between people is imperative, the minister added. The restrictions would apply from 10 p.m. and would also mean that night restaurants would be closed again.
Lockdown for the unvaccinated
Since the 2G rule has been in place in public life, everyone who has neither been vaccinated nor recovered has been excluded from large parts of public life. For example, they are no longer allowed to visit bars and theaters.
“The Corona situation in Austria is serious,” said Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg on Sunday after a video conference with top representatives of the federal states and spoke of a “shamefully low vaccination rate”. The government is not taking this step lightly, but unfortunately it is necessary.
In the middle of the week we will see whether this measure has already worked, Mückstein added. He emphasized again that the extent of the fourth corona wave was mainly due to the unvaccinated.
