Austria: lawns are getting more expensive – cars & mobiles

Anyone who drives to Austria should look even more closely at their speedometer in the future than before: As of September 1, the neighboring country will more than double the fines for driving too fast, as the ADAC Südbayern warns. Up to 5000 euros could then be due for speeders, it was said. The maximum rate is currently 2180 euros. According to the information, the minimum amounts for driving too fast will be roughly doubled.

Those who exceed the permissible top speed by more than 30 kilometers per hour will now pay at least 150 euros instead of the previous 70. Those who drive more than 40 kilometers per hour in urban areas or more than 50 kilometers per hour out of town will have to pay at least 300 instead of 150 euros in future, said the club with.

Since there is no uniform catalog of fines in Austria, the amount is at the discretion of the respective authority, according to the ADAC. And because there is an agreement between Germany and Austria on the enforcement of fines, these are also enforced by the German authorities. Austria’s Transport Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) announced a package of measures in March 2021 to deter speeders and reduce the number of road deaths.
