The east coast of Australia has been suffering from dramatic flooding for days after extreme rainfall. But the situation now worsened. The city of Lismore in northern New South Wales was affected. On Tuesday, people could be observed who had sought refuge on the roofs of their houses and had to spend the night there. New South Wales Premier Dominic Perrottet: NEW SOUTH WALES PREMIER DOMINIC PERROTTET: “We spent hours watching people stranded on roofs. We have seen children saved. We’ve seen people take shelter on bridges. But what is also important: We see how a community stands together and supports each other. And that’s the spirit of the people who live by the rivers up north and all over our state.” According to the authorities, hundreds of people have been acutely affected by the floods. The instruction to leave the houses was addressed to over 300,000 people. Several people have already died in the floods. It is the second year in a row that this region of Australia has had to cope with torrential flooding.
