A crocodile attacked and seriously injured a nine-year-old boy in Kakadu National Park in Australia. How the incident happened is still unknown.

In In Australia, a boy is fighting for his life after being attacked by a crocodile in the famous Kakadu National Park in the north of the country. The nine-year-old was flown on Monday in critical condition to a nearby hospital in the town of Jabiru and later to the hospital in the city of Darwin, Australian broadcaster ABC reported, citing the rescue workers.

Wherever there is water, there can be crocodiles

The exact course of the incident was initially unclear, but the child was said to have been attacked by the reptile while swimming. There were no details about the exact injuries.

According to official figures, 10,000 saltwater and freshwater crocodiles live in Kakadu National Park, the country’s largest national park – around ten percent of all specimens in the Northern Territory. The park, popular with tourists from all over the world, is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. “Remember that wherever there is water, there can be crocodiles,” the park’s website says. “Be careful near rivers and waterholes and pay attention to crocodile warning signs.”
