Do young people still motivated by politics exist? Whereas the Montaigne Institute revealed at the beginning of February a study according to which 64% of young people showed signs of political disaffiliation – the fact of not being on the left/right or of not feeling close to a party – 20 minutes went to meet those who, on the contrary, fervently support and campaign for one of the candidates in the presidential election.
Auriane Dupuy, 22, has been a political science student and activist since January at Jeunes Generation-s, the youth movement with Yannick Jadot. Convinced of her first experience in the departmental last year, she wanted to commit to the presidential election in order to promote her “ecologist, feminist” values and her appetite for issues of social justice. “Obviously, especially in this crucial period in terms of presidential but also legislative elections”, she assures.
What does she expect from her candidate? First, “that it respond to the demands of young people who demonstrate for the climate, or for [la journée des droits des femmes] March 8”. But also, “that it reinvest ethics in politics by making good choices, by stopping funding structures, companies that do not respect environmental codes, social justice, equality”.
“Don’t let others choose for you”
For the young activist, one of the essential themes of the campaign is food. “One of the proposals would be to completely abolish VAT on organic products, which is equivalent to a reduction of 20%. “A measure that would make it possible” to eat better, to remunerate French producers and farmers “.
A word for young people: “Go vote, don’t let others choose for you. Keep getting involved by demonstrating, boycotting, retweeting, being in associations, that’s also participating politically. “Voting is really translating these demands,” she concludes.
