August Seidel and his companions: an exhibition in Rosenheim – Bavaria

Life in the city must have been quite annoying for her at times. To this end, the Munich painters in the 19th century dedicated themselves devotedly to life in the countryside. At least on the canvas they captured unreachable peaks, preferably in the sunset or dawn, vast plains, huge giant trees, still or rushing waters, covered in fog or illuminated by sun. Of course, the artists didn’t seriously think about escaping the city. The travels were enough for them to later paint idealized landscapes of longing in their studio.
