Augsburg’s new old main station – Bavaria

Of course, at main stations it’s all about trains, but this time other driving aids are in the foreground. This Friday can certainly be described as historic for Augsburg, as passengers will be going up and down escalators at the main station for the first time. The station building there was built in 1846, making Augsburg the oldest major German city train station that is still in operation. After years of renovation, the city and railway are now opening the new distribution level on Friday, a passage for passengers in the middle of the tracks from east to west with access to all tracks – “barrier-free”, with escalators and trains, as Bernhard Christ, the long-time manager, emphasizes of station management. “It’s a train station that a city like Augsburg deserves.”
