One or the other is still available. A railing with a handrail, for example, 240 euros, the heart of the stairwell. A bike stand, 40 euros. Sinks, radiators, curtains, ceiling lights, wall mirrors, wooden windows. The old city library in Augsburg is selling out, the local building authority wants to sell as much building material as possible before the building is demolished in November. “Circular economy” says Mikala Holme Samsøe. The building material is not simply scrapped, but reused, which saves money, CO2 and raw materials. The architect and professor of drafting and design at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences has already considered buying one of the long window sills herself and taking them home. But it’s rather difficult to take the ICE to Berlin, where she lives.
