Every sip costs a fortune. Almost 1.5 million pounds have already been paid for a “Macallan” whiskey. Now another bottle is coming up for auction.

The most valuable whiskey in the world is going under the hammer in London. The auction house Sotheby’s announced that it will auction a bottle of “The Macallan 1926 Adami” on November 18th. The estimated price is 750,000 to 1.2 million pounds (860,000 to 1.38 million euros), said Sotheby’s. In autumn 2019, a 0.75 liter bottle of “The Macallan 1926 Fine and Rare” was auctioned for a world record price of almost 1.5 million pounds.

The whiskey comes from a legendary stock: a total of 40 bottles from the barrel were filled in 1986. Of these, 14 bear the “Fine and Rare” label and 12 others have a label designed by the Italian painter Valerio Adami in 1993.

The bottle now on offer is also the first to be processed by the Macallan distillery: As Sotheby’s also announced, both the capsule and the cork were replaced. In addition, new glue was applied to the corners of the label. Finally, a one milliliter sample was taken to compare the whiskey with another bottle from 1926.
