Aubinger elementary school is being expanded – Munich

The elementary school on Limesstraße is being converted for all-day operation: a learning house, a canteen and a new pool, which is also open to clubs, are planned.

The three-stream elementary school at Limesstraße 38 in Aubing is to be expanded into an all-day school. A new building is planned on the site of the current sports and swimming pool: a learning center including specialist classrooms and canteen, combined with a new simple sports hall and a swimming pool. The swimming pool will be made with 25-meter lanes “suitable for competitions and water polo,” assures City School Inspector Florian Kraus. After school and on weekends, the gym and swimming pool should be available for club and popular sports until 11 p.m.

As early as May, the move of a transformer station is planned as an early measure, and the demolition work is then to begin in October. The students will probably be able to use the new premises for the first time at the beginning of the 2026/27 school year.

It has been known for years that the Limes School needs modern specialist classrooms and rooms for lunchtime catering. The sports hall and swimming pool are also dilapidated and no longer economically viable. As early as 2011, the “air conditioning system with ventilation function” in the swimming pool was the subject of an investigation, and the device kept failing. In 2016 the pool leaked and the tub lost water. Thanks to a temporary repair, swimming lessons are still possible until the end of this school year.

The playground should become a green classroom

The elementary school on Limesstraße currently consists of two buildings, an old building from 1905 that is a listed building and an extension built in the mid-1950s. The main building was optimized in terms of energy and fire protection eight years ago. Because the schoolyard in the south, including the climbing frame, has to make way for the planned new building, a new, raised schoolyard area is to be built between the old building and the new building. Not all game offerings will find space there in the future, but some of them will. On the other hand, the city wants to renovate the existing, large playground in the west and equip it with additional play facilities: a water pump, a balancing path, seating furniture and a green classroom.
