The EU has clung to the hope of being able to negotiate with Tehran for too long. But the attack on Israel has shown that the reality is different: those in power are waging a war against the West.
Iran’s unprecedented attack on Israel makes it imperative that the German government and the European Union readjust their strategies towards the regime of the Islamic Republic. Of course, Germany is bound to its association with the other EU states and also to European law. This makes it a little more difficult to give a desirable, powerful answer. Whether the legal framework in the EU allows the Revolutionary Guards to be listed as a terrorist organization is still questionable after the attack with drones, cruise missiles and, above all, ballistic missiles – but this is not the only decisive factor.
