An army of three million internet-connected toothbrushes is said to have attacked a Swiss company and cut it off from the network for several hours. This news has been amusing IT security experts all over the world for several days. It was published by the small Swiss publication Aargauer Zeitung, and that already at the end of January. The news took on a life of its own when it was reported a few days later by German and then British media such as Independent and the Sun picked up were, with the latter also transplanting Aargau to Germany. Well-known experts now found out about the claim and raised initial doubts. Although there are toothbrushes with frills, they are usually accessible via Bluetooth and not online.
