Israeli security forces arrested four suspects after killing an Israeli in the West Bank. The alleged weapon was also seized.
Israeli security forces arrested four suspects after a fatal attack in the West Bank. During the operation in a village northwest of the Palestinian city of Jenin, four suspects were caught during the night, said the secret service and the army. The alleged murder weapon had also been found. The Palestinians are now to be interrogated by the secret service.
Bennet welcomed the arrests
An Israeli was killed and two others injured in the attack in the northern West Bank on Thursday. According to Israeli sources, they were shot at in their car.
Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett welcomed the arrests. “Every terrorist needs to know that the State of Israel will settle the bill with him,” he said, according to his office. Attackers could not hide permanently and lived “on borrowed time”.
The attack occurred in the settlement area
According to the Israeli armed forces, the attack took place near the former Israeli settlement of Homesch in the north of the autonomous region. Homesh was one of four West Bank settlements evacuated as part of the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza in 2005.
In recent years, settlers set up an unauthorized outpost there. He is one of many in the West Bank that Israel regards as illegal but is often tolerated by the government. According to the Israeli media, Jewish settlers from nearby settlements are still visiting the hill to pray for example.
Again and again, Palestinians attack Israelis in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Israel had conquered the West Bank and East Jerusalem in the 1967 Six Day War. The Palestinians claim the territories for their own state with East Jerusalem as their capital.
