A Sikh temple has been attacked in the Afghan capital Kabul. He heard explosions and gunfire from the temple, said Gurnam Singh, a leader of the religious community. According to this, around 30 people were in the church at the time of the attack.

A spokesman for the Afghan Interior Ministry confirmed the attack. There were two injured. The attackers tried to drive a car bomb to the temple, but the vehicle exploded some distance away. The ministry spokesman did not provide any information about the perpetrators.

Many Sikhs are said to have left the country

The Sikhs are a small religious minority in Muslim-majority Afghanistan. According to the Reuters news agency, before the Taliban took power, there were around 300 Sikh believers across the country. In the meantime, however, most Sikhs are said to have left the country.

In 2020, 25 people were killed in an attack on a Sikh temple.
