Attack at Christopher Street Day – Bavaria

At a parade for Christopher Street Day (CSD), two participants were apparently attacked and injured. The police confirm investigations, the organizing club CSD Augsburg speaks of an “anti-queer incident”. The people concerned were harassed, rainbow flags were stolen and torn up. The two attacked, queer participants were therefore beaten and then kicked when they were already on the ground. The police said only that a report of bodily harm had been taken. Investigators are currently not aware of any torn rainbow flags. Nor can they confirm an anti-queer incident. “Investigations into the background are ongoing, we just don’t know anymore at the moment,” says a spokesman. According to the police, the move with 3,000 participants was otherwise completely peaceful. “We are shocked and sad that such incidents have to be recorded in the Peace City of Augsburg,” writes CSD Augsburg on social media. The association has therefore quickly organized a rally against hate crime for Saturday, at which a maximum of 600 people are expected from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Augsburg’s Königsplatz. Attention should be drawn to “the shocking events of last Saturday and many others that happen to the community every day”. The Augsburg SPD is “speechless and shocked” by the attack: “The incident makes it clear why the CSD, daily educational work and consistent solidarity with queer people are needed.”
