The German Athletics Association defends itself against the allegations of the former world-class decathlete Rico Freimuth.

The German Athletics Association has the allegations of the former decathlete Rico Freimuth denied that supervisors and trainers at training camps would not work seriously and seriously enough with athletes.

“We firmly reject the criticism of the behavior of the coaching and support team,” said a statement at the request of the German Press Agency on Wednesday.

“DLV training camps are selected exclusively on the basis of the best possible training and framework conditions for the individual discipline groups while adhering to the budget,” it said. Rico Freimuth also celebrated great international success with the help of these measures and the commitment of his coach, who worked as a national coach at the DLV.

“Weird Culture”

In an interview with the TV channel Eurosport, the 35-year-old vice world champion from 2017 spoke of a “funny culture that has been naturalized in the DLV for years” and claims: “Sometimes the training camps are chosen based on where the red wine estates are – so that the coaches and officials can drink red wine there in the evening.”

The top athletes of the DLV were not able to win any medals at the World Championships in Budapest for the first time since the title fights were held.
