Shanice Craft from SV Halle did not come close to winning distance five years after her last championship title and finished second with 64.05 meters. Claudine Vita from SC Neubrandenburg, who came third in the European Championship, was only fourth with 62.39 meters behind Marike Steinacker from Leverkusen, who threw 62.70 meters.

After the successes in recent years, the discus throwers are also among the hopefuls at the World Championships in Budapest from August 19th to 27th. Last year, however, there was no medal at the World Championships in Eugene.

In the high jump, Tobias Potye, who came second at the European Championships, was in a class of his own. The man from Munich mastered 2.27 meters with ease and narrowly missed a personal best of 2.31 meters in the last attempt. “I wanted to jump my best performance, you could see that it was possible. It’s a great start to the second half of the season,” said Potye.

Carolina Krafzik managed the 400 meter hurdles in the semifinals in 54.47 seconds, improving Heike Meissner’s 29-year-old championship record.

European javelin champion Julian Weber secured the title as in the past two years. The man from Mainz won with a strong 88.72 meters and gained more self-confidence on the way to the World Cup. Weber came within 82 centimeters of his best distance and can hope in his current form that he will soon succeed in the hoped-for first throw over 90 meters.

Second was Maurice Voigt with 77.43 meters. Rio Olympic champion Thomas Röhler was only fourth with 71.44 meters. After long-term back problems, the man from Jena is still far from his former form, his best distance is 93.90 meters. Johannes Vetter was not at the start, the German record holder and former world champion still has health problems.
