At the deviled egg world championships, the candidates raised the mayonnaise

They were 11 (too bad, close to two, we were making a nice pun) to dispute, Sunday, in Sète (Hérault), the trophy of the World Championships… mimosa eggs. This downright wacky competition has crowned, for the seventh time, the amateurs who have best succeeded in seducing the jury, with this ancestral Sunday dish.

France 3 Occitania, who attended the test specifies that the mimosa eggs are judged on their preparation, their originality, the taste… But also on the extended name, often crossed out, that the candidates give to their dish. “We do this at the last moment so as not to poison the jury with a mayonnaise which would have turned in the sun”, details, with the chain, Jean Pierron, one of the candidates for this well-watered competition.

The designated winners of Russian Roulette

But it sometimes happens, like on Sundays, that the jury is unable to decide between certain dishes. Then the first ex aequo engage in a ruthless last test, to define the winners: Russian roulette. Several eggs are offered to the candidates, only one is hard. The winners are those who don’t crash a fresh egg on their head. And this year, it was Hanaby Sabi and François Gayau who lifted the trophy: a magnificent mimosa egg dish, which all the competitors coveted.

“We did it on a whim, confided the winner to France 3. One evening, a little drunk, we signed up. In 2024, the duo will return, to challenge their title.
