His band Il Divo stands for the crossover of classical and pop. Now the singer Carlos Marin has died at the age of only 53.

The Spanish singer Carlos Marin, a member of the band Il Divo, has died at the age of 53.

“With a heavy heart we announce that our friend and colleague, Carlos Marin, has died,” wrote his three band colleagues on their official website on Sunday. On Thursday, the group announced that Marin was in the hospital.

Marin was born in 1968 in Rüsselsheim, Hesse, and grew up in Mörfelden-Walldorf, where he began making music at an early age. By the time he moved to Madrid at the age of twelve, he had already released two albums. His band Il Divo, which was founded in 2003, combines classical music with pop. “For 17 years the four of us were together on this incredible journey from Il Divo and we will miss our dear friend,” wrote his colleagues.

Stars expressed their grief on social media. Hollywood star Barbra Streisand shared a photo on Instagram and wrote: “You left us too early, Carlos. Rest in peace.” The music producer Simon Cowell, who discovered the four singers in 2003, wrote on Twitter: “I find it so difficult to put into words how I am feeling right now. I am devastated that Carlos Marin has died. He loved life. ” There was initially no official information on Marin’s cause of death.
