Dead woman recovered from car

Just 50 meters before Niagara Falls plunged into the depths, witnesses see a car in the water, with a motionless person at the wheel. In a daring maneuver, a rescuer from the US Coast Guard manages to rescue the woman.

Just a few meters from the famous Niagara Falls, US rescue workers recovered a dead woman from a car that had fallen into the river in a dramatic rescue operation. According to the police, the black car with a motionless person was discovered in the river just 50 meters from the famous waterfalls.

The water level was lowered by means of a dam, and helicopters and drones searched for possible survivors in the six-degree cold water. Spectacular video images show how a rescuer from the US Coast Guard hangs on the rope of a helicopter and tries to stabilize himself close to the abyss despite the wind and snow above the car. He finally succeeds in pulling the lifeless person out of the car.

A resident lifeguard later spoke of an “incredible achievement” by the Coast Guard at a press conference. Never before has one been called to a vehicle so close to the abyss.

For the woman, however, the help came too late, she could only be rescued dead. According to police, it was a woman in her sixties from western New York state. Investigations should now clarify how the car got into the river at the point between a road bridge and a pedestrian bridge.
