Asylum procedures in Africa: The migration debate has neo-colonialist traits – Opinion

Asylum procedure in Rwanda – oh, how productive and profitable that sounds. At least for Germany. In fact, this idea only raises questions but does not solve any problems.

Rwanda was a German colony from 1884 to 1916. Seen this way, one could recognize a certain historical logic when some in German politics now focus on the small East African country. Rwanda should solve the migration problems in Germany and Europe and thus save democracy from the onslaught of right-wing populists, right now. It is a debate that certainly has neo-colonialist traits.
