AstroTV has always been a hit with TV parodies. The operators always firmly rejected the accusation of charlatanism. However, they probably did not foresee the station’s shutdown.

Not a nice look into it Future: The esoteric channel AstroTV will cease broadcasting. The television channel for horoscopes, card readings and clairvoyance will be pulled on December 31st of this year. The operators announced this on Wednesday. Several media outlets had previously reported. The niche channel is known to the wider public primarily through new parodies by television critic Oliver Kalkofe. During his “TV total” time, Stefan Raab also joked about the station’s contacts with the supernatural, as did Raab’s successor Sebastian Pufpaff.

The broadcaster has been the subject of criticism for years because of its handling of viewer trust. During a procedure in 2015, the responsible media authority in Berlin-Brandenburg had to deal with around 100 complaints that called for the broadcasting license to be revoked. The background was allegations of “dubious offers and even fraudulent activities” against callers.

AstroTV has always firmly rejected these allegations: “Many people feel comfortable in the spiritual world of AstroTV. To equate this with charlatanism shows intolerance and arrogance,” said the broadcaster in an older statement. “Despite all misrepresentations and hostility, we are pleased to continue to be your point of contact for spiritual questions and entertainment.”

The station describes itself as the “leading TV platform for esoteric life advice and spiritual content” in German-speaking countries. “With an innovative mix of live advice, home shopping and the spiritual lifestyle magazine “Leichter Leben”, the station not only offered entertainment, but also orientation and support in the life questions of its viewers.”

AstroTV is based in Berlin-Charlottenburg and has been on the air since 2004. “We look back on over 20 years of successful broadcasting in Germany and Europe and are proud of what AstroTV has achieved during this time,” said the managing director of the operating company adviqo, Tom Tews, according to the announcement on Wednesday. The statement speaks of a decision “as part of a strategic realignment by the owner”.

The man who makes the stars shine

Tews announced: “It is now time for us to adjust our focus and set the course for the future in an increasingly digital world.” The operators initially did not comment in more detail on future plans. AstroTV is already very active on the internet. According to the company’s own information, the offer is available in more than 32 million TV households and via an app on social networks such as YouTube, Tiktok and Instagram.
