Astra-Zeneca spray vaccine against corona fails in first study

Initial tests of a nasal spray version of Astra-Zeneca’s corona vaccine in cooperation with the University of Oxford are not showing the desired success. In the first of usually three study phases, an antibody reaction in the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract was only found in a minority of the study participants, reports the University of Oxford. In addition, the immune reaction measured in the blood is weaker than with a corona vaccination in the upper arm muscle.

Actually, the nasal spray version of the vaccine should have simplified the corona vaccination and made it more effective. The setback highlights the complexity of developing a nasal vaccine version of the coronavirus Financial Times.
