ASSE separates from Laurent Batlles

Yesterday evening, AS Saint-Etienne faced Guingamp for the 17th day of Ligue 2. But the Greens lost 3 to 1 at Geoffroy-Guichard. A defeat which was obviously too much for the Saint-Etienne leaders, since it is the fifth in a row. For this reason, the Loire club has decided to part ways with its coach Laurent Batlles (48 years old), in office since the summer of 2022. Information confirmed by the deputy president of the Greens Jean-François Soucasse. His words are relayed by RMC Sport.

“There is a situation that is difficult for our club. Unfortunately we realized that as things stood, we were going to have a lot of difficulty achieving our objectives regardless of Laurent’s unfailing investment, his love of the club, his visceral desire to succeed in this mission. But today we must project ourselves towards the objective that is ours. For these reasons we considered that a new mobilization around a new dynamic was necessary. There are electroshocks, whatever you want to call them, to be implemented. These are never pleasant moments. It’s always a difficult decision to make. You see matches and results, I see people involved, looking for solutions, sometimes finding them or less at one point. My responsibility is to give momentum to this team. (…) Today I am not in denial, I know our ranking, I know that it is not in line with our ambitions.” While Laurent Huard (director of the training center) will act as interim manager, ASSE is already looking for a coach. Thierry Laurey is ahead of the competition. Olivier Dall’Oglio is notably in the running. On the other hand, Philippe Montanier has already refused the position.
